Nearly all data analysis processes in day-to-day lab work can be automated, increasing the quality of the analysis and saving time and money. For most bioinformatics tasks there exist a wide variety of possible solutions. However, finding the most effective solution can be as difficult as solving the problem in the first place. Sometimes a desktop-computer with an internet browser will be as effective as a multimillion-dollar solution.
